Start digging through the walls around you, aiming for any shiny stuff. This will get you some dirt and ore, so craft your furnace at the workbench. That allows you to melt the copper ore to upgrade your pickaxe and craft a sword to take care of some of the slimes you might see nearby.

Aside from selling supplies, the Bearded Merchant sells items that can be used to re-summon certain bosses such as all giant slimes and Ghorm; you simply need to purchase these items and place them on the boss' rune to get them to reappear. Feel free to farm the bosses for fun and profit if you want!

I usually don't like darkness in games. When prompted at the start of a horror game to adjust a slider until the logo can barely be seen, I move that damn slider as far to the right as it'll go.

Wood will be the first resource you’ll come across, and that will be all you need to get going once your character pops out of their mysterious pod.

Copper Ore is mined from The Undergrounds' walls that sparkle in the darkness. Plenty of wood is also required, from exploration and/or farming roots.

It’s pitch dark, so you’ll need to plop down some Core Keeper Gameplay torches, keep an eye out for glimmering deposits to crack open, and consult your slowly materializing map from time to time.

A short intro sequence vaguely (but enticingly) introduces your ancient underground surroundings, and it’s immediately clear that you’ll need to grow some crops to fend off your appetite, build a base to craft battle-ready gear, and search for three boss creatures. The world has a semi-randomized layout, which lends itself well to Core Keeper

awards experience points whenever you do a relevant action (which I love), so running around will eventually increase your movement speed, and slashing slimes and creepy crawlers will help bolster your melee might.

Face legendary Titans that hold the secret to this long-forgotten world. Sharpen your combat skills against a variety of monsters and mini-bosses, spend talent points to level up your abilities, and plan your strategy to conquer these colossal creatures of the underground. Discover rare and powerful loot to help you on your journey and power up the Core.

It’s a great value at $13, but don’t let it overstay, either. Just because you can automate rare scarlet ore mining with a drill, conveyor belt, and a robot arm, that doesn’t mean you strictly “need to.” It can feel like progress for progress’ sake.
